Hi Davie, sorry only just picked up you last post a few minutes ago It could well be an egr problem as it is not unknown on the Mk5 - little bit surprised it has happened on your 2017 model but obviously it can/could do.
On my mk4.5 2.0tdci I had all of the above it felt terrible and hard to change gear (manual 6speed). This seemed to detioriate at year 3 after the factory lube wore off the linkages.
